As I have mentioned before, I love my grandma but I still have to restrain myself from strangling her at times. And if you really wanted to know, the whole conversation was carried out in (exasperated) Hakka.

***************************************

Grandma: May, are you free?

Me: Yeeessss?

Grandma: I need to perm my hair.

Me: Ok, when?

Grandma: Friday or Saturday. You decide on the time.

Me: Aah…I’m working on Friday.

Grandma: Saturday? Morning?

Me: *thinks of all the Saturday errands* Um…how about Monday?

Grandma: I have a party. On Wednesday.

Me: But you could still do your hair on Monday right?

Grandma: Friday?

Me: No, Monday. Isn’t your cleaning lady supposed to come on Friday?

Grandma: She comes on Friday or Saturday.

Me: So how am I supposed to take you out if she’s coming on Friday or Saturday?

Grandma: She comes either on Friday or Saturday. Time not fixed.

Me: Yeah, so why not we go on Monday?

Grandma: But my party is on Wednesday.

Me: …….

Grandma: …Then while I’m away on Friday Sunny can babysit grandpa at home.

Me: Sunny’s going to be out with his friends…could I get back to you?

Grandma: Ok…so Friday or Saturday ya? Call me?

Me: I need to speak to Mum. We still have one car.

Grandma: What happened to the other car? Why so long?

Me: Long story. Look. I’ll call you but I think it’d be on Monday.

Grandma: Ok..so remember ya, it’s either Friday or Saturday.

AAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was down in Singapore again for another wedding! No photos have cropped up yet but it was a pretty hectic weekend – church wedding in the morning, lunch reception, secret meet up with Jon (it was so good to see you again!) and back home for another change before the wedding dinner at Sentosa.

Having attended many weddings this year (I thought this would be the last wedding but I will be playing for another friend’s wedding next month) I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed myself this time around. It was a mixture of the good company and surprise friendships that really capped it off for me.

Anyway, after the wedding dinner, Noel and I gathered whatever energy we had left to watch Lust, Caution. R-21 version, of course. ;)

There were only 2 reasons I wanted to watch this show: 1. The music and 2. Tony Leung’s balls.

No, I do not have a thing for balls. But having been told that one could actually catch a glimpse of Little Tony I thought why not.

Having read many bad reviews about this show, I was contemplating ever watching it in the first place but I’m glad I did watch it. While the movie is not extremely brilliant, I enjoyed the music (I love musical tensions) and of course, Tony Leung’s acting. I could understand why the sex scenes were so explicit and I actually liked the ending very much; particularly the agony and how the build up of the story ebbed away into nothingness.

On hindsight, I think I enjoy depressing movies.

A few months ago I vowed that even if the sky fell on me, I went broke or bought a car (no, not really), I would attend a Qawwali concert performed by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s nephews, Muazzam and Rizwan Ali Khan. I knew it would be a once in a lifetime experience and having missed seeing the very great Ustad Nusrat himself (he passed away in 1997), this was one performance I could not let slip away.

To say I was blown away by the concert – understatement. I had trouble keeping my mouth closed and was in complete awe of the singing, the composition and the sound of the sung languages (songs were sung in Punjabi, Urdu and Farsi). While I could not understand any of the lyrics, the spirit of Qawwali singing – the devotional music of the Sufis – shook my core. I was particularly drawn to their first piece, sung in devotion to the Prophet Muhammad. Surely, I thought, with all the negativity surrounding Islam today this very concert transcended all barriers yesterday.

After the concert, the Gods had a short meet-the-fans session. Trying not to gush, I presented my programme to them.

I dreamt I was in a cartoon called Totoro II (the thought might have sprung from the arrival of Jolie II). In the cartoon Totoro had a Mr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personality disorder so I kept seeing him change into Good Totoro/Bad Totoro.

Then the scene changed and I was at the doctor’s having my rash checked (I recently rediscovered my allergy to prawns and crabs). I had a nasty rash on my left thigh and at the back of both my elbows. I dreamt I was scratching them and woke up doing precisely that.

Am I nuts or am I nuts?!

Jolie II

Jolie II arrived safe and sound yesterday evening! She looks splendid, feels splendid (although Mum says she feels like she’s driving a toy car) and has some zippy-driving tendencies. Yay!

For my so-inclined friends, Jolie II possess a pretty cool and auspicious number of 5528.
